community! A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
(EMT)As a part-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you care
for and support people during both emergency and non-emergency
medical situations. When a call comes in, you quickly hop into the
back of the ambulance - driving it when necessary - and promptly
respond to the call. On the scene, you diligently evaluate the
patient's condition and then provide the appropriate medical care
and basic life support services. You are a knowledgeable person who
can confidently operate resuscitation devices as well as apply
vacuum splints, cervical collars, backboards, bandages, and
anti-shock trousers.As needed, you also perform lifesaving
procedures such as pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, airway
opening, semi-automatic defibrillation, and medication
administration. If the patient needs to go to the hospital, you
gently load them into the ambulance and monitor their vital signs
while on the road. At the hospital, you help unload the patient and
share relevant information with the doctors and nurses. To ensure
the ambulance is always ready to respond, you help perform weekly
inspections, complete preventative maintenance, and re-stock
inventory levels. You love that you directly help people every
single day on the job, and you take great pride in literally being
